Coexist

the green sparkles with dew as the sun rises
condensation pools cool residue to drink from a blossom’s base
soothing the thirst while surveying the foliage
the realm warms with radiance - invigorating hunger
some small flies got caught in the rolling, morning mist and died,
but these morsels didn’t gratify
scattered bees buzz the flowers with pollen debris
- as the dragonflies flicker by
the lizard leaps from leaf to leaf, looking for something substantial to eat
wary of the other creatures looming- as their cravings grow too
the birds swooping overhead, leading to scrambles under brush
chirps and squawks- staggering with intense shocks
yet quietly along the side of a palm, nimble limbs slowly creep withdrawn
sneaking towards a nearby web - spread across the fronds
numerous bundles of ensnared gnats speckle the patterned silk
tip toeing within the weave, a spider poised with gusts of breeze
attachments divide, after some fruit flies collide,
high and imbibed from the rotting mango nearby
their juicy flavor enamored by the derelict clamor,
now savored by the spider
lingering in the shadows with caterpillar cocoons,
the lizard patiently perches along the enwrapped tombs
mounting a narrow leaf, the hunter disconnects a distant piece
the spider dangles disoriented, as the predator approaches
- ready to pounce
stray frays sticks to scaly skin, but the anole remains focused
the spider tries to slip careened- under cover of a curved veneer
but the lizard does not relent, as she emerges from a silhouette
peering downward with a clawed curl,
the agile insect pauses with pensive peril
a sudden strike finishes the spider’s streak
- gnashed with rows of small teeth
chomping with a satisfied gloat,
the long legs disappear down the leathery throat
a stretched bulge eases down, as the reptile’s belly smooths round
the lizard licks her lips, and frees herself from the viscous strips
briefly basking in the sunbeams,
she scampers into the undergrowth unseen
bird song dwells in the branches above,
as the mango slowly ferments below
tucked away in the tree trunk cracks,
hundreds of tiny spiders hatch from a silken sack
the arachnid’s legacy resounds, with echos of history profound
spinning new webs, balancing on strands of life and death
nature in flourish, as flora and fauna strive to coexist
